Terms of Service

Last updated: May 17, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your use of The Commonplace, an iOS app for asking questions of a curated theological library. By using the app, you agree to these terms.

Use of the App

You may use The Commonplace for personal, educational, devotional, and research purposes. You agree not to misuse the service, interfere with its operation, attempt to bypass access limits, or use it for unlawful activity.

Accounts

You can use the app without registration. Sign in with Apple is optional and is used for account-based features such as account deletion, future sync features, and account support. You are responsible for maintaining access to the Apple account you use with the app.

Subscriptions

The Commonplace may offer free usage limits and paid subscriptions for additional access. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Subscription management, cancellation, and refunds are handled through your Apple account and Apple's App Store policies.

AI Responses

The Commonplace uses retrieval and AI generation to answer from a curated library. Responses may be incomplete, mistaken, or unsuitable for your situation. The app is a study aid and should not be treated as professional, pastoral, legal, medical, financial, or emergency advice.

Content and Intellectual Property

The app, design, software, and service are owned by us or our licensors. Some library materials may come from public domain or otherwise licensed sources. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, or redistribute the app or service except as permitted by law.

User Content

You retain responsibility for the questions, reports, and other content you submit. You grant us permission to process that content as needed to operate, protect, and improve the service.

Service Availability

We aim to keep The Commonplace available, but the service may change, pause, or stop at times. We may update features, usage limits, pricing, or supported platforms.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms, misuse the service, or create risk for other users, the app, or our providers.

Disclaimer

The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill arising from your use of the app.
